Joel Coward
Yale University
Joel is an human rights and environmental lawyer with significant experience of helping large commercial organisations achieve ESG objectives within complex operational and compliance environments. Currently at Yale University, Joel was previously Lead – Modern Slavery & Sustainability in Supply Chain for BHP. In that role, he led the build, integration and execution of NHP’s industry-leading modern slavery, responsible sourcing and sustainable supply chain transparency program across its global commercial trading, procurement, investment and governance operations.
Dr James Foley
Head of Data Science and Modelling Team, DEFRA, UK Govt
James is currently the Head of Data Science and Modelling within environmental land management at DEFRA, providing analytical and domain expertise evidence to government policy. He manages a team of data scientists who are responsible for a wide range of projects across the UK agricultural system cutting across data science and natural science. Prior to this, he was the senior data scientist at Deep Planet, an AgriTech and sustainability company that provides data insights to agricultural and environmental clients. His expertise is in the use of statistical, machine learning, deep learning and GIS techniques with environmental and satellite data.
He completed his DPhil (PhD) in zoology at Oxford University with a focus on conservation of endangered species and was the course instructor for the environmental science PhD students at Oxford University in Maths, Programming and Scientific Computing.
